In a heartwarming initiative to inspire young minds, the AeroDarat Services (ADS) team at Lapangan Terbang Sultan Abdul Halim Alor Setar (AOR) played host to 100 students from Sekolah Menengah Tunku Abdul Malik and Sekolah Rendah Kebangsaan Kepala Batas, Alor Setar, Kedah on the 3rd and 4th October 2023. The initiave, named MYAirportCARES, was a collaborative effort between ADS and Malaysia Airports Berhad (MAHB).

ADS, a prominent ground handling company overseeing operations at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) and 16 other airports across Malaysia, recognized the significance of providing students with a firsthand experience of the aviation industry. The visit aimed to broaden their horizons and offer insights into the various aspects of airport operations and career opportunities within the industry.

Haji Mohd Shahar Affendi bin Ishak, the station head at Aerodarat Alor Setar, couldn’t hide his enthusiasm as he witnessed the joy on the students’ faces when they received mockup boarding passes.

He stated, “Students couldn’t contain their excitement as they had the opportunity to check in at the counter and embark on an airport tour, including a visit to the tarmac.”

“The visit provided students with a unique opportunity to witness the inner workings of an airport, shedding light on the multitude of functions and roles involved in its seamless operation.”

“It was a day of discovery as they interacted with airport personnel, observed aircraft up close, and learned about the intricate processes that ensure the safety and efficiency of air travel,” Haji Mohd Sahar added.

The program concluded at 12.00pm with a session for light refreshments. This initiative aligns with the broader mission of nurturing a new generation of aviation enthusiasts and professionals by exposing them to the multifaceted world of aviation.

On the 17 Dec 2021, Aerodarat Services (“ADS”) Quality Assurance, Safety & Security (“QASS”) Department organized the Second Virtual ADS Safety Award Ceremony with objective to celebrate and acknowledge ADS Safety Champions and Teams that have contributed the outstanding safety behaviour and in safety performance for year 2020.

ADS has recoded “ZERO ACCIDENT” for the year 2020 and it will not achieve this target without the commitment from all the staff.  As the state of COVID19 is still in the process of recovery, therefore in order to maintain standard operating procedures (“SOP”), then the event was made completely virtual and conducted through Microsoft Teams as compared to last year which was made hybrid. Although not all staff were able to attend the event due to work constraints, this virtual event has provided an opportunity for many staff to participate without leaving their workplaces especially to the staff in the domestic stations which recorded over 100 participants.

The event officially begun with a welcoming remark by Head of Quality Assurance, Safety & Security (“HQASS”) Mrs Shahfinaz Abd Wahid followed by opening speech and officially launched by ADS Chief Executive Officer (“CEO”), Mr Nadziruddin Mohd Basri.

There were five main award categories won by winners from Kuala Lumpur Station, Hub Domestic Station and Non-Hub Domestic station such as Top Three Highest Safety Oversight Surveillance Submission, Domestic Station Quality Control Program, Top Three Highest Hazard Report Submission and Station Zero Incident Award.

Winners are awarded with amazing prizes such as Challenge Trophy, Certificate of Appreciation, Cash, and ADS tokens consisting of ADS Corporate Shirt, Lanyard, ADS Keychain, ADS Notebook and Water bottle which was sponsored by, ADS Club and also ADS Business Development.

The event was a huge success and received positive feedback from all viewers. For all winners, this is an appreciation and acknowledgement of their hard work and contribution in promoting safety culture, not only at workplace but everywhere.

Next year, Insha’Allah QASS will conduct another around of Safety Award, therefore appreciate if you could keep the year of 2020 and this year 2021 article for future reference and guideline.

Thanks and have blast New Year 2022 !
